Do's & Don'ts of Skin Care

GOJO® Skin Care Lab

Why is GOJO uniquely qualified to offer skin care solutions?

  • Skin care has been our only business for over 50 years
  • We pioneered the use of instrumentation to measure skin condition in the lab and the field
  • Research and application in multiple markets allows lessons to be shared across many industries
  • Solutions have been proven effective in the laboratory and in actual workplaces

We're serious about learning as much as we can about skin care and passing on our expertise to customers. We're serious about our research, so a significant percentage of revenues goes to Research and Development. Products are tested in the lab and in the field to ensure that our internal research withstands the reality and demands of workplace settings. Outcome studies have proven the effectiveness of the GOJO® Hand Hygiene Program around the world in many markets (Manufacturing, Education, Healthcare, Foodservice, Automotive).

In order to assess skin conditions and the quality of our products, we pioneered the use of state-of-the-art equipment, measuring topical skin conditions such as color and moisture, as well as blood flow under the skin.
Corneometer in use Corneometer CM825®
An automated instrument used to measure the amount of moisture in the outer layer of the skin (skin hydration) and the ability of the skin to retain moisture (skin moisture capacity). These measurements are used to characterize skin condition and to determine the effect of products on the skin.
Laser doppler in use Laser Doppler
This instrument can be used to determine if the body responds to an irritant in the presence and absence of a conditioning lotion.

Laser Doppler in use

Chromameter in use Chroma Meter CR-300®
An automated instrument that measures reflected skin color in three-dimensional color space as precise numerical values, it is primarily used to quantitatively measure skin redness (erythema) resulting from skin irritation.
Tewameter in use Tewameter TM210®
The Tewameter is used to measure the rate of water loss through the skin. Since the skin barrier regulates the rate of water loss from the body, the rate of transepidermal water loss is a measure of the condition of the skin barrier. When skin is damaged, its barrier function is impaired resulting in high water loss.

CoolPix 990®
A digital photographic system used to visually document skin condition. It is used to compare workers' skin condition in different occupations and to assess and document the effect of an intervention, such as use of a hand lotion, using before and after photographs.

Infrared Thermometer
An automated non-contact instrument used to measure the surface temperature of skin.
